Aikya Organics, an organic farming value chain company, has won the 2019 SEED Low Carbon Award from India. The SEED Low Carbon Awards 2019 in Ghana, India, Indonesia, South Africa, Thailand and Uganda are sponsored by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).

Aikya Organics promotes sustainable farming as well as gender equality, by training women in low-cost alternative farming techniques, setting up seed banks, tool banks, as well as solar powered processing and packaging plants.

All Aikya’s activities are geared towards shortening the value chain of the products, thereby making organic produce cheaper and more competitive in the market.

Other winners were Fang Thai Factory, Thailand; Hustlenomics, South Africa; Mycotech, Indonesia; Neoplast Eco, Ghana; and Tusafishe, Uganda. All the winners will be receive support from the SEED Accelerator programme, a one-year support package that includes tailored needs assessment, capacity-building workshops applying the hands-on SEED Accelerator Toolkit, and one-on-one advice, as well as a SEED Accelerator grant. They will have the opportunity through the SEED network to form connections and avail promotional opportunities.

Aikya Organics has its own-brand store, Dhaanika, in Lucknow, and the produce is also sold through various B2B and B2C channels, as well as through their website.
