Solar Adoption Grows, But Awareness and Access Still Lacking

62% ready if financing improves, finds Evolve Energy Group. Cost savings and environmental concerns drive interest, but upfront expenses and a lack of information slow adoption

A survey conducted by Evolve Energy Group reveals that an increasing number of urban and semi-urban residents are actively considering solar power for their homes. Of the 500+ people surveyed, 62% stated that they are open to adopting solar energy, and 10% indicated that they are likely to do so within the next year. Another 24% are thinking about it for the longer term, while 6% said they are not interested.

The survey finds out that the most common reason for switching, mentioned by 45% of participants, was the desire to reduce electricity bills. Environmental concerns followed closely, cited by 20%, along with government subsidies (25%) and potential increases in property value (10%).

But even with rising interest, many said they are holding back due to concerns about initial costs. More than half of the respondents (58%) pointed to high installation expenses. Other issues included maintenance (44%)financing (34%), unsuitable rooftops (30%), and not having enough information (26%).

When asked whether they would go ahead with solar if flexible payment options were available, 62% said yes. The most preferred financing model was a mix of government subsidy and loan (42%), followed by bank loans (26%) and pay-as-you-go or lease models (24%). Only 52% of respondents said they were ready to invest in solar now, with another 34% unsure and the rest saying no.

Most participants were from urban areas, and approximately half were between 18 and 25 years old. Around 40% of them reported a monthly income of over ₹1,00,000. This suggests that financial ability may not be the biggest hurdle; people are simply looking for more clarity, better support, and easier payment options.

“People are showing strong interest in solar energy. What they need is a clear understanding of the process, the costs, and how it can benefit them over time. Our goal is to make solar simple, affordable, and dependable for everyone,” shared Karan Singh, CEO Asset Development, Evolve Energy Group.

Evolve Energy Group, a key player in the solar sector, offers complete end-to-end solar solutions  from manufacturing and distribution to installation and ongoing maintenance. The findings suggest that interest in solar power is picking up, especially among younger residents and higher-income groups. But to increase adoption, better awareness, simpler financing models, and consistent customer support will be essential.
