Repower has engaged in an exclusive interview with Amit Mittal Founder and MD Chandpur Paper
- What percentage of Chandpur Paper’s current energy requirement is met through renewable sources?
Chandpur Paper today supplies around 65% of its energy needs from renewable sources. This strong dependence on renewables is a testament to the company’s strong desire to conduct green and sustainable business. In incorporating clean energy technologies like biomass, solar, and other renewable options into its energy portfolio, Chandpur Paper lowers its carbon footprint and encourages eco-friendliness. This decision not only enhances the company’s green policies but also aligns with global initiatives to transition to cleaner energy resources, promoting long-term sustainability and operational efficiency. - Have you implemented any on-site renewable energy solutions, such as solar or biomass-based power generation?
Yes, Chandpur Paper has installed in-plant renewable energy practices under its sustainability objectives. The company has fully shifted towards the use of biomass fuels in place of traditional fuels, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting waste-to-energy practices. Such a practice promotes the use of environmentally friendly resources with minimal environmental destruction. With optimal use of biomass, the company not only reduces its carbon footprint but also optimizes energy efficiency and security. All these efforts are aligned with global clean energy objectives and are a testament to Chandpur Paper’s strong commitment to green production, ensuring its operations positively contribute to environmental conservation and a green future. - What steps have you taken to improve energy efficiency in your manufacturing operations?
To improve energy efficiency in our production processes, we have made several crucial initiatives. We put into practice energy-efficient equipment that reduces the amount of energy consumed without affecting productivity. Additionally, we always refine our processes to reduce the wastage of energy and total operation wastage. Another significant step is the fact that we use waste heat recovery systems, which recover and reuse the heat produced in manufacturing, thus reducing energy requirements. All these combined help us to reduce our carbon footprint, save on operating expenditure, and focus on our sustainability in manufacturing operations. - Are there any recent or planned investments in renewable energy infrastructure for the plant?
While there are no single standalone investments in renewable energy infrastructure in the works presently, our approach is one of continuous development. We are committed to optimizing our business by the use of the latest technology advancements that bring about increased efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and help us achieve our long-term sustainability goals. This includes periodic review of advancements in clean energy technology and its implementation in our business wherever feasible. Unlike occasional activities, clean energy solution adoption is an ongoing process in our opinion, ensuring our plant is adequately aligned with future industry norms, regulatory compliance, and worldwide clean energy trends towards a cleaner tomorrow. - How do you balance operational cost-efficiency with the adoption of clean energy solutions?
We balance operational cost-effectiveness with clean energy adoption by completely relying on biomass fuels instead of conventional fuels, significantly reducing our environmental impact while ensuring a stable, cost-efficient energy supply. Alongside biomass, we invest in solar power, nurture robust waste recycling programs, and adopt water-saving technologies to optimize resource utilization. These combined efforts help us maintain a low carbon footprint while keeping operational costs under control. By embedding sustainability into every aspect of our operations, we ensure long-term business viability without sacrificing efficiency, proving that cost-effectiveness and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand. - Have you explored partnerships or government schemes to support renewable energy adoption in your operations?
We have sought aggressively and formed partnerships to accelerate the uptake of renewable energy in our company. One key activity has been our association with a leading green energy company, enabling us to harness the power of the sun for the majority of our energy needs. Now, more than 50% of our total energy needs are met using solar energy, reducing our dependence on conventional power generation. This partnership not only supports our obligations towards sustainability but also supports national clean energy goals, which demonstrate our proactive approach towards integrating renewable energy technologies into our very basic manufacturing processes. - What impact have renewable energy initiatives had on your carbon footprint and sustainability goals so far?
Renewable energy projects at Chandpur Paper have contributed immensely to the company’s reduction in carbon footprint through a reduction in the dependency on fossil fuels and a lowering of greenhouse gas emissions. Solar power usage has supported the promotion of cleaner production practices, a move that is very much in consonance with our goals of sustainability. These initiatives not only support environmental protection but also improve operational effectiveness and resource management. In total, renewable energy plays an important role in furthering Chandpur Paper’s mission for sustainable development and ethics in production. - Looking ahead, what is your long-term roadmap for integrating renewable energy into your manufacturing process?
Looking ahead, Chandpur Paper’s long-term plan is to extend the use of renewable energy throughout its production processes. Expansion of its solar power and other green energy sources will be done by the company. Priority will also be given to embracing cutting-edge energy-saving technologies and innovative technologies such as waste-to-energy systems. Through ongoing investment and strategic alliances, Chandpur Paper will become more energy independent, minimize carbon footprints, and reaffirm its commitment to sustainable and environmentally sound manufacturing in the years to come.
